Darby’s relationship with her mother is tenuous at best and she wasn’t even aware of her illness as the two hadn’t spoken since she left for college. Riddled with guilt, she drops everything to make the interstate journey to see her. She receives a call from her estranged sister informing her their mother is nearing the end of her battle with terminal cancer. Such as…ĭarby – In the book, Darby (played by newcomer, Havana Rose Liu) is a University of Colorado student. It does stay fairly true to the story despite some deviations.

The film is decent but lacks much of the book’s excitement. Adams’ story is loaded with twists and turns and although the term “thrill-ride” is often overused, it’s well-earned here. From this moment on, it’s a race to try and rescue the child while battling the elements and the would-be trafficker(s). She soon learns that at least one of them is harboring a dark secret after noticing a little girl chained in the back of one of their vehicles. The worsening conditions force her to take refuge at a rest stop where she encounters four seemingly innocent strangers. Dimensions where there are infinite Koris, infinite Cades…and apparently, on every other Earth, they’re madly in love.įalling for a soldier is the last thing on Kori’s mind. The story centers around Darby, a young woman traveling through the Rocky Mountains amidst a snowstorm to see her dying mother. Turns out, Kori’s dad isn’t just an army general-he’s the head of a secret government project that has invented a way to travel between parallel dimensions. And when he saves her from a seemingly random attack, well, that’s when things get weird. He looks at her like he knows her very soul. But when her dad sends a teenage subordinate to babysit her while he’s away… That’s taking it a step too far.Ĭade, as beautiful as he is deadly, watches Kori with more than just interest.

Nobody said being the daughter of an army general was easy.
